Even if you’re a creator, you might justify hours of scrolling as “research.” We convince ourselves that this endless consumption is groundwork for our next big idea, masking the guilt of wasted time as a necessary evil. Yet, more often than not, this so-called research leaves us feeling overwhelmed and inadequate, rather than inspired. It is simply so, social media is developed and built to hook you up.

So, what’s the alternative?

You might be asking, “Okay, I understand the problem bla bla. Now, give me a Fast quick fix!”

Well my dear there’s no magic bullet to solve this issue, but the first steady step is awareness. We need to recognize that we’re being manipulated by the dopamine reward system.

And here I am, giving you the most revolutionary advice ever: stop scrolling! Like, seriously, why didn’t you think of that yourself? I’m sure you’re absolutely shocked by my groundbreaking wisdom. Bro idk there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. The key is to experiment and find what works best for you: set screen time limits, Support independent media outlets that prioritize depth and accuracy, and explore alternative forms of media, such as podcasts, audiobooks till your brain gets revived to absorb real content……

Else a return to a more curated, editorialized approach to content could be the answer. Imagine a digital space where content is thoughtfully selected and presented, where each piece of media has been chosen for its value, not just its ability to capture a few extra seconds of your time. This would require a brave shift away from current business models, but the potential rewards — both for users and publishers — are immense.
